Pratap Singh Mulrajot
Rajpurohit Thakur Pratap Singhji Mulrajot was the eldest son of Rajpurohit Mulrajji Sewad and his successor as Thakur of Tinwari and Tikai Rajpurohit of Marwar during the reign of Rao Maldeo Rathore. He was a distinguished warrior, diplomat, and royal priest, revered for his valor in the Battle of Giri-Sumel and known as one of the most heroic figures of the Sewad Rajpurohit lineage.
During the feud between Rao Maldeo of Jodhpur and Rao Viramdeo of Merta, Pratap Singhji was dispatched by Maldeo as a diplomatic envoy to investigate the status of Raysal Rathore, a relative of Viramdeo. Pratapji confirmed to Rao Maldeo that Raysal was still alive, though he later succumbed to his wounds.
However, many historical texts mistakenly credit this mission to Mulrajji, despite the fact that Mulrajji had already attained martyrdom during the Mehrangarh attack in Rao Ganga’s time. This is a noted historical inaccuracy in the records.
In 1544, when Rao Viramdeo invited Sher Shah Suri to invade Marwar, Rao Maldeo prepared his forces and advanced to the battlefield of Giri-Sumel. However, due to tactical deception by Sher Shah, Maldeo withdrew his army, leaving behind 10,000 Rathore warriors under Jaitha and Kumpa Rathore.
Pratap Singhji Mulrajot was among the leading commanders of this courageous force. Despite being vastly outnumbered by Sher Shah’s 80,000 soldiers, they fought valiantly and attained martyrdom.
Pratap Singhji fell on the battlefield alongside 15 of his personal warriors.
For his gallantry, Rao Maldeo posthumously honored him with the title of "Singh", a rare royal gesture signifying lion-like bravery.
Apart from inheriting his father’s Tinwari Thikana and associated jagirs, Pratap Singhji was granted five additional jagirs during his lifetime by the Marwar court for his services. His bravery is still remembered in folklore, dohas (heroic couplets), and oral traditions of the region.
Some of the celebrated dohas dedicated to his valor include:
1. कीरत सेवड़ां, कमठांण, रण सूराराठौड़ ।
