Kalyan Singh Mulrajot
Kalyan Singhji, son of Thakur Pratap Singhji Mulrajot, was a prominent Rajpurohit, Tikai, and nobleman of Marwar. He belonged to the Mulrajot branch of the Sewad Rajpurohit lineage, based in Tinwari Thikana. His services and loyalty earned him the official title of Thakur and the privilege of Tazim in the Marwar court.
During the turbulent period when Sher Shah Suri advanced into Marwar and attacked Mehrangarh Fort, Kalyan Singhji was among the chief nobles defending the fort under siege. His leadership and valor in safeguarding the fort were notable during this critical time for the Rathore kingdom.
As Sher Shah’s influence briefly extended over Jodhpur, Kalyan Singhji discreetly coordinated efforts to assist Rao Maldeo Rathore, who was regrouping outside the city. He sent trusted relatives and agents in multiple directions to rally support and military reinforcements, helping preserve the structure of Rathore resistance.
Thakur Kalyan Singhji established a fortified residence (Kot) in Tinwari, which later came to be known as Kalyan Kot. This Kot became the seat of his descendants, who continued to serve the Marwar state in both religious and administrative capacities. Even today, Kalyan Kot remains a symbol of the enduring legacy of the Mulrajot Rajpurohit clan.
Kalyan Singhji’s contributions are remembered for his strategic role during a foreign invasion, his loyalty to the Rathore rulers, and his efforts to fortify and sustain the Tinwari Thikana. His lineage continues through the Pratap Singhot branch of the Mulrajot Sewads.
