On the 8th day of Krishna Paksha in the month of Ashwin, in Vikram Samvat 1882 (corresponding to 1825 A.D.), on a Wednesday—
Rajguru Purohit Jawanji, grandson of Rajguru Rughnathji and son of Badridasji, passed away and attained devlok (the divine realm).
Following his death, his devoted wife Viju, the daughter of Rayalalji, committed Sati, an act of ultimate self-sacrifice in the memory of her husband.
This solemn event is commemorated on a beautifully inscribed stone pillar situated at Dolat Pol, one of the gates of the historic Junagarh Fort in Bikaner.
This memorial inscription stands not only as a testimony to personal devotion and sacrifice but also highlights the prestigious and honored status of the Rajguru Purohit in the royal court of Bikaner.
The fact that such an inscription was established at a prominent location like Dolat Pol indicates the social reverence and historical importance of Rajguru Purohits during that era.
The Sati Smarak at Dolat Pol remains a culturally significant monument and a part of the living heritage of Bikaner. It also serves as an essential point of reference in understanding the Rajpurohit contribution to Rajasthan's historical narrative.
