The Rajguru is an ancient and respected Rajpurohit clan in Rajasthan, India. Historically belonging to the Parmar (Paramara) dynasty lineage, the Rajgurus trace their roots to the early medieval period when they served as royal priests and spiritual advisors to kings. Over time, the clan expanded its influence and aligned with the Chauhan rulers, maintaining high positions in courtly and religious affairs.

The Rajguru clan originally stems from the Parmar Rajput lineage, one of the Agnivanshi clans of Rajputs. As Rajpurohits (royal priests), they held the dual role of spiritual guides and political advisors, often involved in statecraft, coronation rituals, and religious ceremonies of the royal families they served.

During the later medieval period, a section of the Rajguru clan migrated and aligned themselves with the Chauhans of Shakambhari and Ajmer, particularly under the reigns of rulers like Vigrahraj IV, Prithviraj Chauhan. Their intellectual and ritual expertise made them indispensable in Rajput courts, and they were often appointed as chief priests, advisors, and record-keepers.

This strategic alignment expanded the influence of the Rajguru clan across regions such as Ajmer, Nagaur, Jodhpur, and Bikaner. In many Chauhan territories, Rajguru families held Jagirs, performed yagnas, and presided over coronations and state religious functions.

The Rajguru clan remains one of the oldest surviving Rajpurohit lineages in Rajasthan. In the modern period, members of the Rajguru clan are found across western and central Rajasthan, including districts like Pali, Nagaur, Jodhpur, and Ajmer. They are traditionally involved in religious, scholarly, and administrative roles and continue to hold respected positions in the royal courts, community leadership, and historical documentation of Rajputana.

Their enduring legacy is also preserved through oral traditions, family genealogies, and participation in Rajpurohit sabhas and regional Rajput historical events.
