Nirmal Nath Ji Maharaj
Shri Yogeshwar Rajaji Yogi Shri 1008 Shri Nirmal Nath Ji Maharaj, A Life of Devotion, Courage, and Leadership
Shri Nirmal Nath Ji Maharaj was born in Vikram Samvat 2039, on 9 sudi Mighsar, in the village of Modra, District Jalore, Rajasthan. He was born into a devout and respected Rajpurohit Jagarwal family. His childhood name was Narayan. His father was Shri Okh Singh Ji, and his mother was Mungikawar Ji. He was the second of four sons. His maternal home was in the nearby village of Otwala, also in Jalore.
Before his birth, his parents, yearning for children, approached the revered Saint Shri Shantinath Ji Maharaj. They prayed for a son, and the saint, moved by their devotion, blessed them with the boon of four sons. In return, they vowed to dedicate one of their sons to the service of the saint. As promised, Narayan was chosen when Shri Shantinath Ji Maharaj visited Modra. The saint placed his hand on Narayan’s head, instructed him to chant "Om Namah Shivaya," and renamed him Nirmal. This marked the beginning of a divine journey for the young boy, who was then just ten years old.
At the age of fifteen, on Chaitra Sudi Ekam in Vikram Samvat 2057, Nirmal Nath Ji was formally initiated into spiritual life at the Sire Mandir on Kaniyagiri hill, the sacred land of penance of Shri Jalandhar Nath Ji Maharaj. In Vikram Samvat 2060, he was given kundals (ear ornaments) and officially became a Nath Yogi, taking the name Shri Nirmal Nath Ji Maharaj. His life then became fully devoted to serving his Guru, Shri Shantinath Ji Maharaj, with mind, body, and soul.
Shri Shantinath Ji Maharaj eventually instructed Kamal Nath Ji, another disciple, to whisper the sacred mantra into Nirmal Nath Ji's ears, thus formally accepting him as a disciple. From then on, Shri Shantinath Ji became his Dada Guru (spiritual grandfather), and Nirmal Nath Ji’s deep immersion into the Nath spiritual path began.
Nirmal Nath Ji Maharaj practiced deep spiritual discipline, seva (service), and penance at the Sire Mandir on Kaniyagiri hill, the same place where his Dada Guru had performed severe austerities. His devotion, simplicity, and tireless efforts in spreading the Nath yogic tradition earned him immense respect among yogis and followers alike.
His kootumb yatra (symbolic spiritual journey towards liberation) concluded on Vaishakh Sudi 14 in the year 2006. His legacy, however, only grew stronger. Through his lifelong service and spiritual commitment, he became a guiding light to countless devotees and disciples.
In August 2015, during the Nashik Kumbh Mela, a monumental moment arrived. In the presence of all saints, yogis, Peethadheeshwaras, Shankaracharyas, and spiritual leaders of the Akhil Bharatiya Nath Sampradaya, Shri Nirmal Nath Ji Maharaj was unanimously appointed as the Raja (spiritual king) of the Nath tradition. This title recognized his unparalleled contributions, wisdom, and leadership in upholding the values of the Nath yogic lineage.
Today, Shri Nirmal Nath Ji Maharaj resides at the historic Kadli Math in Mangalore, where he continues to guide the Nath tradition as its Raja. His life is a shining example of faith, discipline, divine service, and leadership, inspiring generations to live a life of purpose, humility, and devotion.
