Jagarwal
Jagarwal is a prominent subcaste (gotra) of the Rajpurohit community in Rajasthan, India.
Historically, they have served as Rajpurohits and Advisors to various Rajput dynasties across western Rajasthan, particularly in the regions of Marwar, Godwar, and Mewar.
Gotra: Vashistha (descendants of Brahmarshi Vashistha — Rajguru of Suryavanshi Kshatriyas)
Ancestral Sage: Bal Rishi / Jabali Rishi (after whom Jalore was historically called Jabalipur)
Kuldevi: Jwalamukhi Devi / Jageshwari Devi
The name “Jagarwal” is traditionally linked with "Jwala" (sacred fire), reflecting their spiritual connection to Vedic fire rituals.
They trace their origins to the Agnikund Yajna performed by Rishi Vashistha at Mt. Abu, where they originated alongside four royal Rajput clans and Rajguru clan of Rajpurohits.
Originated from the Agnikund Yajna at Mt. Abu.
Initially settled at an early location (not specified in chronicles).
Later moved to Rewat, which became their major jagir of 12 villages during the Parmar period (10th–12th century) when they served the Parmaras of Jalore as their Rajpurohits.
After Rewat, they acquired Rewtada as a jagir.
Migrated to Sesali (Jalore district) as their next jagir.
From Sesali, they dispersed in multiple directions.
A major section moved to the Sindhal kingdom (Sojat & Jaitaran) and became Rajpurohits there.
Some migrated to Nagaur.
After Rao Udaji Rathore’s victory over Sindhal Rathores, the Sindhal rulers shifted towards Godwar.
The Maharana of Mewar granted 18 villages to Sindhal rulers, of which 5½ villages were given to their Rajpurohits — the Jagarwals:
Punariya (est. V.S. 1431)
Dhola
Akadra
Dhariyan
Sukarlai
½ share in Chanchodri
Served Parmaras of Jalore, Sindhal Rathores, Mewar Kingdom, and later the Rathore kingdom of Marwar.
Received jagirs from Mewar and Marwar, including:

Chatelav (Jagir of Jagarwals)
Auwa — established by Ghadsiji Jagarwal (from Rewtada); later confiscated by Marwar State and granted as a Sirayati Thikana to Champawats; Jagarwals initially resisted and still retain part of the estate
Sanwalta (near Nadol) — granted by Maharana of Mewar; when Godwar was transferred to Marwar, it was given to Kumpawat Rathores
Small Jagarwal settlements also exist in Baggad, Jhunjhunu.
It is often said that Jagarwals are the second most widespread Rajpurohit clan after Sewads.
Before independence, Jagarwal Rajpurohits held 18 Jagirs in Marwar and Godwad, including:
