Rampal Singh Rajpurohit
Rampal Singh Rajpurohit (Date of birth unknown – deceased) was a renowned Indian writer of Rajasthani literature, best known for his short story collections that critically examined social structures and cultural traditions. He served as a government school teacher during his lifetime and contributed significantly to Rajasthani literary circles.
Rampal Singh Rajpurohit was originally from the village of Norwa (Gundechha) in the Ahore tehsil of Jalore district, Rajasthan. However, he was born in Bikaner, where he spent a considerable part of his life. While pursuing a career in education, he simultaneously developed his identity as a literary figure within the Rajasthani language community.
Rampal Singh Rajpurohit is best remembered for his work as a short story writer in the Rajasthani language. His stories often tackled themes such as feudalism, social injustice, and the plight of the common man, with a deep cultural resonance among Rajasthani readers.
He authored four major short story collections, each well received by critics and readers alike:
1. Bikharta Chitram – His first story collection, published by Negchar Prakashan, Bikaner.
2. Parnya Paidhi – His second compilation, also published by a reputed publishing house.
3. Sundar Nain Sudha – Awarded the Sahitya Akademi Award (New Delhi) for the year 2014 in the Rajasthani language category. The book was published by Sahitya Sarita, Bikaner, and was also part of a manuscript publication initiative by the Rajasthani Language, Literature and Culture Academy, Bikaner.
4. Bina Saja Walo Ghar – A recent collection of stories focusing on life during the princely state era of Bikaner.
His writings frequently appeared in prestigious Rajasthani literary journals such as Manak, Rajasthali, Jagati Jyot, Marvan, Ganpat, and Aparanch.
In 2014, Rampal Singh Rajpurohit's work was nationally recognized when his story collection "Sundar Nain Sudha" received the Sahitya Akademi Award in Rajasthani, one of the most prestigious literary honors in India.
Rampal Singh Rajpurohit is remembered for his bold narrative voice and his contribution to preserving and promoting Rajasthani literature. His native village, Norwa (Gundechha), is celebrated for producing this literary gem who left a lasting legacy in the Rajpurohit community and the broader field of Indian regional literature.
