Rajendra Singh Rajpurohit
Rajendra is a retired Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer of the 1982 batch, former Accountant Member of the Income Tax Appellate Tribunal (ITAT), Mumbai, and an accomplished author. He is known for his extensive service in the Income Tax Department and Enforcement Directorate and for pioneering regional-language literature on taxation, especially in Hindi and Rajasthani.
Rajendra joined the Indian Revenue Service in 1982. Over his career, he served in various states, including Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, and Maharashtra, primarily in Mumbai. His service was largely within the Investigation Wing and the Income Tax Appellate Tribunal (ITAT), Mumbai.
He held several key positions:
Director of Exemptions, Mumbai
Director of Investigation, Mumbai
Departmental Representative at ITAT, Mumbai, for over five years
Rajendra was deputed to the Enforcement Directorate (ED), where he served as:

Special Director for the Western Region, covering Goa, Gujarat, and Maharashtra
He was actively involved in the initial implementation of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) in India.
As Additional Director General at the National Academy of Direct Taxes (NADT), Nagpur, Rajendra was in charge of training the 54th and 55th batches of IRS officers. He also served as visiting faculty at NADT, regional training institutes of the Income Tax Department, and the Western India Regional Council (WIRC).
Rajendra is highly regarded for his literary work that simplifies tax laws in Indian languages. He has authored several books to promote tax awareness in Hindi and Rajasthani.
Basic Concepts of Income Tax (Aaykar Ki Mool Avadharanayein) – A Hindi-language book awarded by both the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Home Affairs for its accessible explanation of income tax laws.
Decisions Favouring Revenue – A compilation of important rulings by the ITAT, Mumbai, beneficial to the Income Tax Department.
Direct Taxes Glossary (DTG) – A glossary of over 2,500 tax terms as interpreted by Indian High Courts and the Supreme Court.

Rajendra authored the pioneering 700-page book “Aavaklag ar Lag-denar (Income Tax and Tax Payers)” in pure Rajasthani language. It covers:

The book is divided into 23 chapters and explains taxation using local idioms and regional context. It includes a glossary that provides equivalents of tax terms in Rajasthani, Hindi, and English.
This work is considered one of the first full-length tax books in the Rajasthani language, making a significant cultural and educational impact by demonstrating the potential of Indian regional languages in legal and financial literature.
Since his retirement in 2018, Rajendra has been practicing as an advocate at the Hon’ble High Court of Bombay, focusing on taxation and economic offences.
