Chain Singh Rajpurohit
Chain Singh Rajpurohit (born 31 January 1953) is a retired Indian police officer and acclaimed Rajasthani author, recognized for his contributions to regional literature that depict the social, cultural, and psychological fabric of rural Rajasthan. He is known for portraying stark realities of life in a feudal and transitioning society through his powerful storytelling.
Chain Singh Rajpurohit was born on 31 January 1953 in Dornadi village, near Karamawas in Sojat tehsil, Pali district, Rajasthan. His father was the late Shri Shivlal Singh Rajpurohit, and his mother was the late Shrimati Sita Devi Rajpurohit. He completed his Master of Arts in Hindi Literature, which laid the foundation for his parallel journey as a literary writer.
In 1978, Rajpurohit joined the Rajasthan Police Department as a Sub-Inspector (Thanedar). Over the next 35 years, he served in various districts including Udaipur, Rajsamand, Sirohi, Jaipur, Jodhpur, Bikaner, Hanumangarh, Sri Ganganagar, Kota, and Bharatpur. He was known for his community-focused approach and transparent policing. He retired in 2013 from the post of Additional Superintendent of Police (Addl. SP).
For his exemplary service, he was honored with numerous departmental and state awards. Most notably, he received the President’s Police Medal for meritorious service, a prestigious national recognition for police personnel in India.
Despite the demanding nature of his police duties, Rajpurohit actively pursued his passion for literature. His writing often focuses on the socio-political and cultural upheavals in rural Rajasthan, highlighting issues like casteism, poverty, police-citizen relationships, and moral dilemmas.
Notable Works
"अळवाणा पग" (Alvana Pag): First published in Manak Patrika in 1992, this story gained widespread recognition for its portrayal of psychological and social conflicts within a feudal society.
"कुसुगन" (Kusugan): A haunting narrative reflecting the dehumanization in society, where man’s suffering is compared to or worse than that of animals.

Upcoming Works
He is currently working on a memoir or autobiographical work based on his life experiences in the police force and changing socio-political dynamics of Rajasthan.
Chain Singh Rajpurohit currently resides in Vaishali Nagar, Jaipur, Rajasthan. He is married to Kaushalya Kanwar, and the couple has three children. Post-retirement, he remains actively engaged in literary and community activities.
