Rekhaji Khindawat
Rekhaji Khindavat was a valiant Rajpurohit military general who served under Rao Jaimal Mertiya during the 16th century. He is remembered for his heroic role and martyrdom in the Third Saka of Chittorgarh, where he fought bravely against the Mughal forces led by Emperor Akbar.
Rekhaji was the son of Rajpurohit Khindaji Sewad, who is regarded as the Mulpurush (ancestral founder) of the Khindavat branch of the Sewad Rajpurohits. In Vikram Samvat 1561 (1504 CE), Rao Dudaji of Merta granted Khindaji the jagir of Panchdoliya, and he later became the Jagirdar of Tunkaliya as well.
Rekhaji Khindavat rose to prominence under the leadership of Rao Jaimal Mertiya, a key figure in the defense of Chittorgarh. During the Third Saka of Chittorgarh (1567–1568 CE), Rekhaji fought with valor against the invading army of the Mughal Emperor Akbar. He was martyred in this historic battle, which has been commemorated in Rajput history for its display of unmatched courage and sacrifice.
Following Rekhaji's martyrdom, his wife committed Sati on Chet Sudi 7, Vikram Samvat 1624 (circa 1567 CE) at Thikana Panchdoliya, where a sati inscription still exists in her memory.
