Mahasati Natho Kanwar SewadaniJi
(Consort of Srirakh Devidan Singh Ji, Bisu Kalan)
When injustice dominates the land, when the cries of the sacred cow go unheard, and when womanhood itself is insulted—then a Sati arises. She becomes history, she becomes the fire of justice, she becomes the eternal flame of dharma.
Such was Mahasati Natho Kanwar Sewadani Ji — wife of Devidan Singh Ji of Bisu Kalan, daughter of Ridmal Singh Sewad of Sakadiya, and mother of the brave son Pirdaan Singh Ji. Her life was a shining example of sacrifice, courage, and devotion to Gau Mata.
In the year V.S. 1878 (1821 AD), on a fateful afternoon, the cows of Bisu Kalan strayed into the border of Balai village (Kankan region).
There, Kesar Singh of the Kotadiya family cruelly seized the sacred cattle, an act that was not only merciless but also an affront to dharma and humanity.
The calves cried in distress, calling for their mothers.
Hearing their anguished calls, Natho Kanwar Ji could not remain still. With a heart overflowing with compassion, she herself went to reclaim the cows. She carried no weapons, no soldiers—only the radiance of truth and the strength of maternal love.
But instead of compassion, she faced insult. Harsh words, humiliation, and dishonor were heaped upon her.
That day, it was not only the cows that were wronged, but also womanhood, righteousness, and truth itself.
Outraged by this grave insult, Natho Kanwar Ji invoked her spiritual power. She cursed the family of Kesar Singh and chose the fiery path of Sati.
With her, Maa Chandra Kanwar, Maa Gomo Kanwar, and other women also entered the sacred flames. The land bore witness to a jauhar—not merely as protest, but as the most sacred, irreversible response to injustice.
And the curse came true.
The lineage that caused the pain, that dared to dishonor Gau Mata and insult a noble woman, perished entirely. Today, no descendants of that family remain.
The soil of that place still testifies:
“Here, not mortals, but deities burned.”
Even today, the memory of that holy fire stirs the soul, and the sacrifice of Natho Kanwar Ji continues to inspire generations with its message of dharma, honor, and unyielding truth.
The story of Mahasati Natho Kanwar Sewadani Ji is not just the tale of one woman, but a timeless symbol of the power of faith, sacrifice, and womanhood.
Her memory is revered in Bisu Kalan and beyond as a guiding flame that continues to illuminate the path of righteousness.
Glory to Mahasati Nathao Kanwar Ji.
Glory to the land that bore such jewels.
