Lakshmidas Hardasot
After the death of Maharaja Rai Singh of Bikaner, a serious dispute arose between his sons, Dalpat Singh and Sur Singh, regarding the succession to the throne. Following their father’s death, Dalpat Singh assumed control of the kingdom and confiscated most of the jagirs belonging to Sur Singh, leaving him only the jagir of Phalodi.
Feeling deprived of his rightful position and territories, Sur Singh sought external support to resolve the conflict. For this purpose, he requested the respected Rajpurohit Lakshmidas Ji Haridasot to approach the Mughal emperor Jahangir in Delhi. Lakshmidas Ji presented Sur Singh’s case before the emperor and earnestly appealed for military assistance.
Moved by Lakshmidas Ji’s appeal, Emperor Jahangir sent a military force with him to intervene in the matter in 1613 A.D. Rajpurohit Lakshmidas Ji, along with a combined force of nearly 80,000 soldiers consisting of Mughal troops and the army of Sur Singh, successfully led the campaign against Dalpat Singh. The forces defeated and captured Dalpat Singh, who was subsequently sent to Delhi as a prisoner.
Following this victory, Purohit Lakshmidas Ji played a decisive role in helping Sur Singh take control of Bikaner along with his 84 jagirs. As a result, Sur Singh firmly established his authority and ascended the throne as the Maharaja of Bikaner.
In this entire episode, the role of Rajpurohit Lakshmidas Ji Haridasot was extremely significant. His diplomatic efforts at the Mughal court, combined with his leadership during the military campaign, played a crucial role in resolving the succession dispute and in establishing Sur Singh as the rightful Maharaja of Bikaner
