Kesariya
The Kesariya family (केसरिया परिवार) carries a glorious history that stretches from the medieval era to the present, marked by tyag (sacrifice), balidan (martyrdom), swabhiman (honor), hard work, truth, and high moral values. Their journey is not only about survival but about preserving dignity across generations.
The Kesariya clan is believed to have branched out from the Udech Clan/Group of gotra of Rajpurohits.
The word Kesariya itself became synonymous with sacrifice and valor.
According to a popular kivdanti (oral tradition):
In a village of Jaisalmer, a conflict arose between the Udech gotriya Rajpurohits and the Bhati Rajputs.
The situation escalated into a fierce yudh (war).
The Rajpurohits achieved vijay shri (victory), but instead of settling peacefully, they felt that their dignity demanded a change in identity.
Draped in Kesariya Bagas (saffron robes)—a symbol of sacrifice and victory—they raised their vijay pataka (flag of triumph) and left the place, choosing to settle elsewhere.
From that day forward, they came to be known as Kesariya.
This legend defines the clan’s ethos of self-respect and independence.
During the reign of Rao Chunda Rathore, in Vikram Samvat 1471 (Vaishakh Sudi 13), Kesariya Tej Singh Ji received Tambapatra grant of the village Tulesar Purohitan.
Initially, the Kesariya family held Tulesar as their principal seat.
Later, they were granted additional Jagirs: Paraliya Shashan and Daikra.
Over time, Daikra’s status as a full jagir was reduced, leaving only half a village with the Kesariya family.
The first old seat (jūnā kheda) of the Kesariya clan was established at Tulesar Purohitan (Jodhpur district) in VS 1471, Vaishakh Sudi 13, by Kesariya Tejsinh Ji.
From this root, the family expanded to other settlements:
Paraliya Shasan
Lakha
Daikara
Later, branches of the family spread out from these villages into other regions:
Langera
Indrana
Javali
Kherwa
Thus, while Tulesar remains the ancestral nucleus, the Kesariya family’s presence gradually extended across Marwar.
The Kesariya clan has remained a symbol of:
Tyag (sacrifice) – readiness to give up worldly gains for honor.
Balidan (martyrdom) – courage in the face of injustice.
Swabhiman (pride) – unyielding sense of dignity.
Nek Jeevan (righteous living) – guided by truth and moral values.
Their Rajpurohit heritage combined martial spirit with spiritual service, ensuring that the clan preserved both dharmic authority and temporal leadership.
From Jaisalmer’s legendary battlefield to the jagir grants of Tulesar Purohitan, Paraliya, and Daikra, the Kesariya clan has walked a path defined by valor, sacrifice, and honor.
Even today, wherever they reside—Tulesar, Langera, Indrana, Javali, or Kherwa—the Kesariya families carry the eternal flame of their ancestors, upholding the traditions of truth, swabhiman, and seva (service).
